Gaelic football for kids at the Vancouver GAA tournament

VANCOUVER – During the Vancouver Gaelic Athletic Association tournament to be held in North Vancouver on June 26 and 27, the Western Canada Division will offer a free introductory event aimed specifically at children.

This will introduce the game so they can learn about the unique and fun aspects of Gaelic football. The course will be aimed primarily at the children and spouses of participants in the tournament.

Organizers welcome this additional feature to the expanding tournament, and are eager to find activities to help ensure that families and friends of those competing have an enjoyable experience (we all know how restless those young ones get when asked to sit through multiple matches).

Even if you don’t have any connection with the players or teams, but want to bring your children along to one of the sessions, you’re more than welcome to do so.

Like soccer, the Gaelic games require little equipment, namely cleats/runners, socks, shorts and light top. Be sure to pack plenty of sun-screen in case the sun is too oppressive.

The hugely successful Vancouver Gaelic football tournament will be running alongside, so families are encouraged to hang around, to watch and support the local teams.

There will be three classes over the course of the weekend at the following times: Saturday, 11 AM - 4-9 year olds inclusive (one hour session). Saturday, 2 PM - 10 plus year olds (one hour session). Sunday, 11 AM - all ages welcome (one hour session).

All are encouraged to be at the venue at least 30 minutes prior to the session to get the young players and their families registered. There will be plenty of other activities for kids to participate in, including colouring, games, and other fun 'stuff'. For more information, e-mail: ronandeane@hotmail.com.
