BELL, John Joseph (Jack) March 11, 1921 - March 24, 2010

On March 24, John (Jack) Joseph Bell of Sherwood Park, Edmonton, Alberta passed away at the age of 89 years.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Tony (Diane) Bell, Jacquie Bell, Julie (Seamus) Kennedy, Mike Bell (Maria Down), Nuala (Lee) MacDonald, John Bell, Sheila Bell and Pete Bell (Diane Kekich); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives in New York and Ireland. He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila.

John (Jack) was a Gaelic football player for County Louth in the 1940s and 1950s and made enormous contributions to his home county team.

He emigrated to Canada a few months before Louth went on to win the All Ireland in 1957. In 2000, he was selected on the Louth's Team of the Millennium in the Right Fullback position and was presented with a Millennium Trophy.

He was a member and player with St. Mary’s Gaelic Football Club in Ardee and on March 27 they held a minute of silence in memory of Jack at the National League match Louth V Antrim in Casement Park, Belfast.

The club will present a Louth jersey of the era and a scroll from the Louth County Board to members of the GAA Western Canada Division at the annual convention in Newcastle, Co. Down in memory of Jack.
