The Gaelic Athletic Association's Canadian County Board's annual convention was a very well attended meeting on February 21 at the Ajax Convention Centre in Ajax, Ontario.

In five provinces of Canada there are 11 cities with 15 affiliated GAA clubs. Going from west to east (7,349 kilometres in total) one finds: British Columbia – Vancouver Harps, Alberta – Calgary Chieftains, Red Deer Eire Ogs (Mens), Edmonton Wolfe Tones; Ontario – Toronto St. Mikes, St. Pats (Mens), St. Vincents (Mens), Gaels (Mens), Durham Robert Emmets, Brampton Roger Casements, Michael Cusacks (Ladies), Ottawa Gaels; Quebec – Montreal Shamrocks, Quebec City’s Les Patriotes; Newfoundland/Labrador – St. John’s GAA.

There were a full complement of voting delegates and observers from across the country in attendance.

At the convention were special guests of honour from the Ulster Council GAA Chairman Tom Daly and Secretary Danny Murphy. Both gave encouraging and informative addresses to the attendees.

A motion that got the most debate was to change a Canadian County Board by-law that states a maximum of seven sanctioned players with any club be increased to 10.

The motion failed to get the two thirds majority and was defeated. Chairman Brian Farmer (Toronto-Durham Robert Emmets) was re-elected for a three year term along with Vice-Chairman Jarlath Connaughton (Ottawa - Gaels); Treasurer Eddie Mangan (Toronto-Durham Robert Emmets); Secretary John O'Flynn (Vancouver – Harps); and Lorraine Morley (Toronto - Michael Cusacks Ladies GFC) as the Development Officer.
