RED DEER, Alberta - The Alberta Cup Championship, also known as the Dennis Walsh Memorial Cup, took place on the last weekend in August at Titans Rugby Park in Red Deer.
The Alberta Cup was established in 2008 and is played over three different weekends with accumulating tournament points.
Edmonton defeated Calgary twice on the day, with the final match going into extra time. The match was refereed by Mick O'Toole.
Edmonton claimed their first Alberta Cup Championship, as well as winning the Western Championship, as I am sure everyone knows by now!
Referees on the day were Mick O'Toole, Adrian Lagan, Colin Baugh and Rory Lynch. Dinner and dance followed the afternoon of football at the Kinsman Hall in Red Deer.
Red Deer will be hosting the second round of the Western Division Finals on the August long weekend in 2010. All are invited and we hope to see many from across the Rockies joining us for a great weekend of Gaelic football.
