CALGARY - The Calgary Chieftains hosted their annual awards night on February 22 in the Maritimer Cuisine and Beer Dock on Tenth Avenue SW.
There was much to celebrate after a strong 2008 in which the men's team won the inaugural Denis Walsh Alberta Cup and captured the Calgary and Edmonton Tournaments, while the ladies' team made immense strides, culminating in their plate victory in Vancouver.
The Club's membership and friends were out in full force to hear chairman, Adrian Lagan, deliver a speech reminding the club of its achievements in 2008. MC for the night was Calum Bonnington who did a fantastic job keeping the night moving along and assisted the team managers in handing out the awards for the year.
The awards for Best New Comer went to Robbie Savage (Men) and Lesley Zmurchuk (Ladies). The MVPs of 2008 were Tom McAroe (Men's) and Erin LeBlanc (Ladies).
The Club membership also voted on the Club Person of the Year, with Orla McKiernan, a long time Chieftain, winning the much deserved recognition from her peers. After the formalities, Paul Worby and his team at the Maritimer did a fine job in keeping spirits high, as the Chieftains celebrated their achievements late into the night.
