Seattle: Gaelic Games a Massive Success
By RONAN DEANE
The Seattle Gaels hosted a Gaelic Games Day involving Gaelic football and hurling teams from Seattle, Vancouver and San Francisco. With the format more focussed on hurling and Ladies Gaelic football, the hosts put on an excellent day's activities that was complimented by a high standard of play in all the games on a Saturday afternoon that threatened rain, but yielded none.

The Ladies games involved San Francisco Fog City, the Seattle Gaels (two teams) and representing Western Canada, the Vancouver Harps. The standard of football was exceptional, and though they were tested by all, the Fog City girls rounded out the day unbeaten to take the honours. The Vancouver ladies played four games with a 2W, 1L, 1T record to close out an impressive day's work.
The Vancouver Men, playing their second sport, hurling also impressed. Beating a Seattle selection and playing competitively for 40 minutes before finally falling to the wayside against an imposing Na Fianna outfit.
A surprise in the day was a very competitive and open Men's football game that saw Na Fianna shade it over the Vancouver Harps by a mere point in a game that looked as though neither side wanted to win (at least, if hitting the target is a fair measure of that). Big hits and strong running football being played by both sides.

Back to the Owl & Thistle afterwards for a mighty feed of stew and shepherd's pie and partying until the wee small hours. A great weekend for the Seattle Gaels in the run-up to the North American's upcoming Labor Day weekend, and great for all those non-San Franciscan teams that ended up in Vancouver on August 4.
The Seattle Gaels must be commended for running a very efficient day of sport and rolling out a fantastic welcome for the visiting teams.
