Tony Griffin Plays to Raise Funds on His Way Through Quebec City

QUEBEC CITY - On his way through Quebec while on his cross-Canada cycle to raise funds for cancer, Irish hurling champion Tony Griffin dropped by for a little game of Gaelic football on June 16.

AT THE match at Université Laval's PEPS field the local Patriotes de Québec played against the Montreal Shamrocks. The final score was 25-13 for Montreal. Irish star hurler Tony Griffin was defeated at the poc fada hurling contest by Montreal player Donal Lacey.

The match at Université Laval's PEPS field was with the local Patriotes de Québec team against the Montreal Shamrocks. The final score was 25-13 for Montreal.

Despite the stifling heat on the field, it was a good game. Had it not been for a slow start by the Patriotes, the score would have been a lot closer.

There was a bit of a surprise in the poc fada hurling contest. Donal Lacey of Montreal won, and not star hurler Tony Griffin!

Griffin was nonetheless very happy with the event and the money raised for the Tony Griffin Foundation. From there the party continued at Nelligan's Pub, 275 St-Jean, for drinks and music. Tony Griffin and the players from both Gaelic football teams were in attendance.
