Western Canadian Championships
for Gaelic Football and Hurling
By RONAN DEANE
VANCOUVER - Teams from Calgary, Edmonton, and Seattle, will descend on Burnaby Lake to take on the Vancouver Harps in men's and ladies Gaelic football and hurling on August 4-5.
The tournament will be held at Burnaby Lake Rugby Fields, 3760 Sperling Avenue, and will be the culmination of the Western Canadian Championships in both men's and ladies Gaelic football.
Calgary Chieftains (men's) and Seattle Gaels (ladies) are the reigning tournament champions from 2006 and the Vancouver Harps are eager to win back their titles, but know that the opposition won't make it easy.
The ladies' title has never been won by anyone other than the Edmonton Wolfe Tones. Calgary and Vancouver ladies will try and stop that juggernaut.
Vancouver Harps hold the men's title which they won on a points decision last year. Review of the Championship set-up in the off-season means that any tight decisions will be addressed in a play-off. So be ready for close match-ups.
Hurling matches will be played with the Canadian teams (Vancouver and Calgary and Edmonton) taking on the North American Champions, the Seattle Gaels, to close off a round-robin between the three teams.
