His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Keynote Speaker at Conference
for Children in Crossfire
BELFAST - The tenth annual anniversary celebration of Children in Crossfire, which has a mission of challenging global poverty and promoting social justice, will be held in Belfast this July.
Children in Crossfire has been involved in projects in places such as Ethiopia, Kenya, and is currently helping to build a school in Tanzania. The two-day international conference aims to raise awareness of the situations where children find their rights are withheld or abused.
The keynote speaker at the conference will be His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. A man of peace, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has consistently advocated policies of non-violence, even in the face of extreme aggression.
Among the list of well known personalities speaking at the conference will be Jane Olson of Human Rights Watch, veteran journalist Fergal Keane and Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern.
Renowned musicians Luka Bloom and Christie Hennessey will also be taking part in the event.
Luka Bloom first went on tour back in 1969 with his older brother Christie Moore when he was 14 years of age. The toured folk clubs throughout England and since then, he has brought his songs to clubs, theatres, festivals, bars, and arenas all over the world.
Christie Hennessey has collaborated and recorded with Christie Moore, Mary Black, Beverley Craven, to name a few. His unique guift has meant that he is one of the few Irish artists to record four double-platinum albums and five top-ten singles.
He will present his new single A Price for Love that he wrote following his trip to Kenya with Children in Crossfire, for the people of Africa and to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the charity.
