VIBE: A new place for the Irish community to develop business and personal contacts

MEMBERS of the VIBE Board of Directors: Ken Keenan, Paul Gleeson, Paul Jacobs, David Bell, Aisling Delahunt and Pat McParland.

VANCOUVER – The walls of Salt in Blood Alley, Gastown reverberated with the cacophony of chat and laughter from members of VIBE Vancouver on a cold winter night in December. The first seasonal get-together in that congenial spot was a huge success.

VIBE, which stands for the Vancouver Irish Business Enterprise, provides a place for the Irish community here to develop meaningful, long-lasting contacts and friendships for both business and social purposes.

Welcoming speeches were made by founding members Ken Keenan, who works in the insurance industry and Paul Gleeson. The latter recently wrote a book with his girlfriend called Crossing The Swell.

The book recounts their adventures rowing across the Atlantic. The dynamic duo entertained and enchanted all present at their book launch which was held in the Vancouver Rowing Club last October.

David Bell, a fairly recent “blow-in” from Dublin’s Fair City also spoke at the event. David is one of the founding members of VIBE Vancouver and is now happily established in Vancouver.

He very kindly offered a helping hand to any of the many new people who have just arrived and may have problems with extending visas to stay in the city while they themselves become more established.

Speeches were also made by our very own defacto Irish Lord Mayor of the city and recently appointed business envoy to Vancouver – Paul Jacobs.

Paul is also involved in various pubs and restaurants around the city and is well connected right across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

The amazing Aisling Delahunt, another founding member, renowned real-estate agent and one of the main organisers of the event warmly welcomed everyone at the door, and was the very epitome of cead mile failte.

There are now well over 40 members of VIBE Vancouver and growing! This vibrant and lively group has many upcoming events most notably a potential “Meet and Greet” with Irish athletes visiting here for the Olympics and another get-together with top captains of industry arriving from Eire in March.
