An annual Christmas tradition at Cambrian Hall
By EIFION WILLIAMS
VANCOUVER – The annual Christmas presentation at the Cambrian Hall by members of the Dylan Thomas Circle of Vancouver is always a popular event.
The highlight of the evening over the years has been the reading of A Child’s Christmas in Wales, a perennial favourite with Thomas aficionados.
The reading has frequently been presented by invited guests followed by carol singing as part of the evening’s entertainment in the convivial atmosphere of the Cambrian’s Red Dragon lounge.
This year the entire evening’s program, entitled Christmas in Wales, will be directed by three seasoned theatre professionals: Russell Roberts, Colleen Winton and Brian Tate.
Actor Russell Roberts is well-known to Vancouver theatre goers. He drew critical acclaim last year for his title role in the Bard on the Beach production of Titus Andronicus. He also won a best actor award for his performance in the play Blackbird, produced by the Rumble Production and Theatre Conspiracy.
Brian Tate is a versatile musician with a stellar reputation as an award-winning composer, choral music director and educator. He has won two Jessie Richardson awards for original theatre music. He also leads a popular local jazz quartet.
Colleen Winton is an actress with an extensive list of stage, movie and television credits, including roles in Da Vinci’s Inquest and The X Files. She is currently Artistic Director of Western Gold Theatre.
The combined talents of these three performers promises an exceptional evening’s entertainment on December 11, doors open at 6:45 PM, to commence at 7:30 pm at the Cambrian Hall.
In recent years, the event has sold out early. This year tickets cost $20 and are available from Neville Thomas at (604) 294-4332 or Don Thomas at (604) 921-7699.
