Circle of Friends Book Club
– Sister Book Clubs Meet in White Rock
FRIENDS from Circle of Friends Book Club White Rock and the Seattle Irish Book Club gathered in White Rock for a literary afternoon. |
WHITE ROCK – Members of the Irish Seattle Book Club made a visit to White Rock on October 24 for a joint meeting with their sister book club “Circle of Friends.”
Both groups had read The Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor, a light humorous book about the life of a GP and his assistant in the small mythical town of Ballybucklebo, just outside Belfast.
The ladies met in the afternoon, and enjoyed Irish fare such as barm brack and wheaten bread, made from recipes given in the book. Discussion on the book was lively, with many opinions and thoughts shared among the ladies.
After the meeting, the Seattle guests were invited to attend a pot luck dinner and evening of Irish music organized by the White Rock Irish Club. The evening was a perfect close to the visit by the Seattle book club, and hopefully will be repeated.
Circle of Friends Book Club meets once a month, and focuses on works by Irish authors, or occasionally a book set in Ireland by a non-Irish author.
