Save the Date! Don’t Miss the 12th annual Nollaig na mBan

By DEIRDRE O’RUAIRC

This is advance notice that the 12th annual Nollaig na mBan celebration will be held on January 9, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel Harbourside, Vancouver.

This is a great traditional Irish women’s celebration so let your female friends and family know and book your tickets in plenty of time.

Tickets are $55 per person for dinner and entertainment (includes taxes and gratuities). The program for the evening is cocktails at 6 PM, dinner at 7 PM, followed by entertainment by Brian Nichol, with ceili dancing to help shake out any lingering stiffness from your New Year celebrations!

To reserve, e-mail Eilis Courtney at: eilis34547@hotmail.com, or call (604) 325-7560. Cheques can be mailed to Eilis at 302 – 1445 Marpole Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V6H 1S5.

Please note that tickets must be reserved by December 18 and seating is limited. Dietary restrictions must be advised at time of booking.

The hotel has offered a special room rate, if you would like to avail of this, call the hotel at (604) 689-9211 after December 1 and book under Irish Women's Network.

Nominations for ‘Irish Woman of the Year Award’ now open
The IWN’s annual ‘Irish Woman of the Year’ Award recognises the contribution that an Irish woman makes to the broader community. Nominations for the Award for 2010 are now being accepted.

If you know of an Irish woman whose contribution to her community you admire, the IWN would like to hear about her. Nominations must be submitted by December 15.

The procedure is quite straightforward – send their name and contact details, along with a short statement on why you are nominating them to Deirdre O’Ruairc at 15289 Royal Avenue, White Rock, B.C. V4B 1M7.

A complete outline of the procedure is on the IWN website – www.irishwomenbc.net – together with the list of past recipients.

The recipient of the award is nominated by a simple vote at the Nollaig na mBan dinner on January 9. The very worthy 2009 Irish Woman of the Year was Eilis Courtney.
