VANCOUVER - It was a double celebration at The Wolf and Hound on West Broadway on April 1. Jennifer (Jen) Gallacher, managing owner of the establishment was celebrating her birthday and it was also two years since she took over ownership of The Wolf & Hound.

It was a full house at the popular West Broadway location with regular patrons and well-wishers offering Jennifer congratulations and much continued success.

Before becoming an owner at The Wolf and Hound, Jen worked at the restaurant for two years as a bartender and server, so she was very familiar with the operation and the clientele.

Before the evening got too busy, Jen took a few minutes to sit down and talk with me about what the past two years have been like and if the business had fulfilled her expectations. I also asked if she had noticed any negative effects as a result of the present economy.

"Actually, business has increased substantially in the past two years," said Jen. "It has surpassed all my expectations. I have also noticed a change over the past two years in the ages of our clientele. We seem to be getting a younger crowd in their thirties and forties now.

"The present economic downturn has had absolutely no negative effect on our business, I think no matter what is happening with the economy, people will still go out to eat, enjoy their favourite beverages and listen to music."

The Wolf and Hound offers live Celtic entertainment every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, starting at 8:30 PM. Every Friday night there is also a traditional session.

All the Canucks games, rugby, and soccer games are shown on wide screen televisions. Jen said, "In the back room we are able to host private parties and we have hosted a lot of sporting event parties."

The Wolf and Hound has an extensive menu to please all tastes as well as all the favourite Celtic pub dishes. On Mother's Day, they will be serving brunch from 11 AM to 3 PM.

The outside patio at The Wolf and Hound is now open after the long, cold, and dreary winter. It's a comforting thought that once again you can sit outside and enjoy your cappuccino or favourite beverage.

I asked Jen if rumours of a summer wedding were in the plans for her and her fiancé Jesse Finlay. She laughed and said, "well, we're planning for June, but I think we've decided to elope and just have a party at The Wolf and Hound after we return."
