Jordan Seguin: Youngest Army Pipe Major in Canada

JORDAN SEGUIN receives his new rank at the Beatty Street Drill Hall in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER - On November 7 at the Beatty Street Drill Hall, 21-year-old, Jordan Seguin became the youngest pipe major of the B.C. Regiment Irish Pipes and Drums. He succeeded long-time pipe major Gordon Barrett, who founded the band in the early 1990s.

Jordan Seguin is the youngest pipe major to lead an army pipe band in Canada and the United Kingdom. Jordan has been piping close to 10 years and joined the B.C. Regiment of the Irish Pipes and Drums at the age of 15.

He has played with the band and played solo on many formal occasions for civic events throughout the Lower Mainland. These have included Irish community gatherings, Irish pubs, weddings, Robbie Burns Day and numerous other functions. He also performed for then (now Senator) Mayor Larry Campbell.

The B.C. Regiment Irish Pipes and Drums is the only Irish Army attached pipe band in Canada. Their distant cousins are the Royal Irish Regiment in Northern Ireland.

Jordan Seguin has recently been selected as the "Music Host and MC," for the week-long Vancouver CelticFest and St. Patrick's Day Parade activities from March 12-16, 2008. For more information, visit: www.celticfestvancouver.com

The Irish Pipes and Drums are currently looking for new members, both pipers and drummers. For more information, call Pat at (604) 802-2576, or visit: www.irishpipesanddrums.com.
