Young B.C. Piper Brings Home Top Prize

VANCOUVER - Alastair Lee is a 15-year-old Coquitlam piper with the Robert Malcolm Memorial Grade 3 Pipe Band. On October 6, he won the 2007 Nicol-Brown competition in Albany, New York.

Alastair captured the event with two firsts and a second in three events. He comes by his talent honestly being part of the famous Lee piping family.

His father is Pipe Major Terry Lee of the SFU Pipe Band and manager of Tartantown in Coquitlam. Alastair is also the brother of Fiona Lee who won the World Junior Highland Dance Championship title at Cowal in August.

The Nicol-Brown is the first of two North American Amateur Piping Championships each year. It is the longest running contest of the two, this year marking its 25th anniversary. It draws competitors from the major regions of Canada and the United States.

This is the first time the contest has been won by a British Columbian since 1991. Congratulations Alastair!
