VANCOUVER - After the distribution of each issue of The Celtic Connection, Colleen and myself will customarily stop by one of our local Celtic establishments for some refreshments to recharge our batteries.
In October we dropped into the popular Penny Lane Pub and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
Newfoundland-born Yvonne Dale was working as both server and bartender, and even though the pub was quite busy, she handled it all with efficiency and good humour. Many of the customers are regulars and Yvonne knows them all by name, along with their drink preferences.
Colleen enjoyed a creamy glass of Murphy's Stout, her favourite beverage. The Penny Lane Pub is one of the few establishments that serves Murphy's Stout. There is a good selection of pub favourites and daily specials at the Penny Lane. Colleen ordered the club sandwich and I had the seafood penne with a caesar salad. Afterwards, we shared a cheesecake with raspberry coulis. It was all scrumptious.

Along with being a friendly neighbourhood pub, the Penny Lane is also a sports orientated establishment and they show all the pay-per-view hockey games and many international sports. They also operate a special bus to some of the Canucks home games but you would need to call the pub for details, because it sells out fast.
Brian Hunter is the well-known proprietor at both the Penny Lane Pub and the Penny Lane Spirit Liquor Store.
