Celtic Times: 'Great Atmosphere, Friendly Service and Great Food'

SURREY - Celtic Times is a new Irish pub and restaurant which has opened recently in Surrey. The establishment was originally known as Barry T's, before it was renovated as an Irish pub.

The interior is quite large with the focus being the large circular bar at one end of the room. High definition televisions are strategically located throughout the pub, and to break up the large room, they have added raised areas with tables and chairs. The back wall has a cushioned snug area and there is also a very nice enclosed patio with lots of greenery. Servers are very smartly dressed in Black Watch tartan kilts.

After the distribution of the July/August issue of The Celtic Connection, Colleen and myself dropped into the newest Irish pub for lunch. The menu is very reasonably priced with a great variety.

You will find all the traditional pub fare including shepherd's pie, steak and Guinness pie, chicken and leek pie, fish and chips, bangers and mash, Guinness barbeque back ribs, along with Angus beef dip, and steak sandwiches. For dessert, Colleen and I shared the delicious baby chocolate bundt cake. In addition, there is a daily lunch and drink special.

Breakfast is served every Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 2 PM to accommodate the late risers. There is also an Irish breakfast, corned beef hash, eggs benedict and French toast.

Of course there is Guinness along with 14 other brands of draft beer on tap. There is live entertainment on the weekends and some of the groups playing at Celtic Times include: The Streels, County Clair, Ryan Hoach, and the Rob Thompson Duo.

As General Manager Blair Wells told me, "At Celtic Times we have a great atmosphere, friendly service and great food - you will have no reason to go anywhere else!"

Celtic Times is located at 12025 - 72nd Avenue (in the Scottsdale Mall) in Surrey, B.C. For more information, call (604) 501-1999.
