Pink Floyd's The Wall to Feature Irish Musician and Actor Mark Downey

VANCOUVER - Irish ex-pat Mark Downey will appear in the starring role of a unique stage version of Pink Floyd's The Wall, coming to Vancouver's Rio Theatre in early November.

The stage production features live singers, a live rock band, and a team of child singers for the famous "We don't need no education!" schoolyard anthem Another Brick in The Wall. Mark will perform the lead part of Pink, the exploited musician who succumbs to career pressure and slides into profound schizophrenia.

Pink Floyd's The Wall was released in 1979 and remains the best selling double album of all time, with over 35 million units sold worldwide.

The Wall was subsequently made into a movie in 1982, directed by Alan Parker and starring none other than world-renowned human rights activist Bob Geldof as the tortured musician, Pink.

Coming to Vancouver, a live action multimedia performance of the show presented by LiveStage Performance at the Rio Theatre with County Meath-born actor/musician Mark Downey in the leading role.

Mark is well known for his regular solo music performances at many pubs, clubs and events here in the Lower Mainland.

"It's a dream role for me as an actor to have the chance to perform this amazing part, and as a musician to be playing Pink Floyd's music while doing it... it doesn't get any better than that!" says Mark.

Pink Floyd's The Wall is being presented by LiveStage Performance, a rock-oriented theatre company with previous productions in New York City and Boston.

Co-Directors Doug Thoms and Kyrst Hogan are experienced New York theatre performers and producers, with Doug being a former Stomp cast member and Kyrst having performed with the Radio City Music Hall touring shows.

With 30 actors, dancers, musicians and a children's chorus on board, the show promises to be "The Ultimate Rock n Roll Psycho Drama."

Pink Floyd's The Wall will be playing at the Rio Theatre, 1660 East Broadway (at Commercial Drive) November 5-8, and November 11- 14.
