An Exciting Summer Line Up at Rogue Folk Club

THE OLD BLIND DOGS from Aberdeen will play the Rogue Folk Club on July 4.

VANCOUVER - On June 12 the Rogue Folk Club will present two CD launches in one show.

Corbin Murdoch & The Nautical Miles release Wartime Lovesongs on Jericho Beach Music and The Abramson Singers, featuring Leah Abramson (Dyad, Crooked Jades) release their debut, self-titled CD.

The show will open with a set by a brass quintet, who will join The Nautical Miles later on as well. www.corbinmurdoch.com.

Don't miss the return of New Zealand/Scots trio Pacific Curls on July 3. The unprecedented combination of fiddle, ukulele, Maori traditional instruments, cajons, guitar, stomp peddles, percussion and vocals with lyrics in Maori, Rotuman and English unfolds a new direction for fusion World music.

They were the surprise hit of last summer's festivals and made a huge impression at the Rogue. Check this out! This is soul music with a difference. www.pacificcurls.com

The Rogue is also thrilled to bring back Aberdeen's Old Blind Dogs on July 4. Featuring brilliant fiddler Jonny Hardie and new piper Ali Hutton (formerly of Back O' The Moon), this band pioneered the addition of djembe to Celtic music and gave traditional Scots music a very well-aimed kick up the kilt!

Sixteen years on from their debut CD they are still making waves, combining songs in the local Aberdeen dialect, Doric, with contemporary songs and dance tunes from all the Celtic regions of Europe. www.oldblinddogs.co.uk.

Celebrated Scandinavian trio Nordik Tree features two members of legendary fiddle combo JPP (Finland) and Swedish fiddler Hans Kennemark. They make their Rogue debut on July 9 en route to Island Musicfest in Courtenay.

One of the most influential singers and guitarists ever to come out of Scotland, Dick Gaughan, will perform at the Rogue on Bastille Day, July 14.

He will doubtless dance on Tom Paine's Bones, and treat us to songs by Robbie Burns, Pete Seeger, Leon Rosselson, Richard Thompson, and Ron Kavana as well as plenty of original songs in his powerful Scots brogue. Not to be missed. www.dickgaughan.co.uk

The concerts will take place at the St. James Hall at 3214 West Tenth Avenue in Kitsilano. Tickets can be purchased at Highlife Records and Rufus' Guitar Shop, online at www.roguefolk.bc.ca or by calling (604) 736-3022. Doors open at 7:30 PM.
