VANCOUVER - A terrific night was had by all on December 14 at the Wolf and Hound for the seventh annual Danny Burns Memorial Feed the Hungry Benefit.
There was some concern as to how the unusually wintry weather that weekend would affect turnout and how generous folks would be given the economic state that was unfolding on the daily news.
But the WoHo was replete that night with hearty winter merrymakers and the old adage about people's generosity in hard times shone true.
By the end of the night, we had raised over $3,300 for the Union Gospel Mission as well as a station wagon load of food donations for the Vancouver Food Bank.
It was great to see Steph and Kevin Boggan warmly greeting folks at the door. Our Christmas elves, Karen Kelm and Irene Slater, did a wonderful job once again assisting at the door, collecting the generous donations and running the raffle.
Jennifer Gallacher and her wonderful, hard-working staff at the Wolf and Hound made certain that the full house of Christmas revelers were well looked after.
Leah Gregg, a Community Relations Coordinator with UGM, shared a few words about the good work and support they are able to offer to those less fortunate and graciously thanked all in attendance for their generosity.
Jacquie Metzler, the previous owner of the Wolf and Hound, supplied Jim Hilton with the appropriate accoutrement to make an appearance as the jolly ol' elf.
Musically, the night got off to a swinging start thanks to Anne, Stan and the boys of Route 66. The Rogues n' Tinkers shifted the night into a Celtic vein followed by Copper Sky.
The BC Regiment Irish Pipes and Drums put in a rousing set and Ballyhooley were up after that to cool our ears. The Irish Wakers - a new group on the scene - made their Benefit debut performance. Long-time participants The Streels and Blackthorn kept the night rolling along and the Pat Chessell Band wrapped the night up.
Thanks to Jennifer Gallacher of the Wolf & Hound, Jacquie Metzler, Duane Lunden, and George McDonnell for their generous donations. A good number of folks went home with door prizes thanks to our magnanimous supporters.
My heartfelt thanks go out to all the musicians, friends and staff without whom the night would not have been possible and to everyone who took the time out of their busy pre-Christmas schedule to share the night with us and help make it such a success.
