Tales From the Hearth:
In the Tradition of a Great Storyteller
The tradition of the storyteller, sitting on the church steps or by the fireside spinning yarns, is captured in Kevin McFadden's little book: Tales From the Hearth.
Kevin was a lover of the traditions and language of his homeland, founding the Irish Club in White Rock and teaching Gaelic to an enthusiastic class, who turned out as much to hear his latest story as to learn the language.
He loved to tell those stories, recalling (or inventing?) minute details with a fondness, clarity and humour that carried his listeners along with him all the way.
Now, three years after his death, some of those stories have been collected by his brother Patrick, and published under Kevin's own title, Tales From the Hearth.
The launch for the book is set to take place on March 12, from 3 PM to 6:30 PM in the Elks Hall in White Rock, the home of the Irish Club he helped to found.
There will be readings, traditional music, and an opportunity to share more stories, for once the lid is off the storytelling keg there is no stopping it!
The Elks Hall is located at 1469 George Street in White Rock. For information, or to order books, e-mail Helen McFadden at: hmcf@shaw.ca, or call (604) 538-9594.
