The Town Pants Celebrate 10th Anniversary at the Commodore

VANCOUVER - The Town Pants return to Vancouver after a three month tour of the U.S. and Canada to perform their tenth anniversary show, and a CD release for their new live album at the Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville Street) on November 24.

VANCOUVER'S OWN Celtic rock band The Town Pants are home after touring North America this summer.

"It's hard to believe it's been a decade now!" laughs singer Dave Keogh. "We started playing in pubs locally throughout the Lower Mainland, and went around the world."

This summer the band was on tour performing at a number of Irish and Celtic music festivals from the Colorado Irish Festival, Celt Classic Festival in Pennsylvania and the Newport Festival in Rhode Island, and by all accounts stole the show everywhere they went.

"It's a great live band to see," says Keogh. "We've had people come out to see us who didn't even like this style of music walk away loving us."

Presented as a wild "Boozapalooza!" of local roots-rock bands, the upcoming Commodore show is rounded out with special guests Swank playing their fevered style of country-rock from their critically acclaimed album The Survival Issue.

Humorous high-octane "truck-rockers" Run GMC start the evening out, making a great night of local music at the Commodore.

For The Town Pants, the evening is also a CD release for their new live album, appropriately titled Coming Home, featuring 17 tracks recorded in May in Vancouver to mark the tenth year since their debut live CD, Liverdance. An album which showed the band's Dubliners and Clancy Brothers pub-bred influences and roots.

"That first CD really showed our roots of those Irish songs which my brother [guitarist] Duane and I heard growing up. The new CD is a good representation of how the band sounds these days.

"It's a bit more full. More of our original stuff, plus some new songs, and a few friends jumping in as special guests," says Keogh.

There's bound to be more of those surprises and special guests at the Commodore as the show will be emcee'd by actor Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica, I, Robot).

"Aaron's been a fan of the band for a while", says Keogh, "He's a funny guy, and he'll be a good ringmaster for the night."

Keogh adds that Douglas is often seen wearing a Town Pants shirt at fan conventions. "I don't know if anybody will necessarily come down dressed as their favourite Battlestar character, but if you see a bunch of Cylons at the bar drinking whiskey that night, don't worry - you're not hallucinating."
