Talented Celtic Youth Group Visits Nanaimo School

By CAROLYN CUSSON
VANCOUVER - The North Shore Celtic Ensemble, an accomplished group of musicians aged 9-16, recently travelled to Vancouver Island exclusively to teach workshops to elementary students and to perform for the families of École Océane, Nanaimo's francophone school.

MEMBERS of the North Shore Celtic Ensemble, under the direction of Claude Giguère, teaching eager young students of École Océane, with the assistance of the school's music teacher, Jacynthe Larimé.

The presentations, entirely in French, reflected the culturally diverse participants as well as their mutual Canadian heritage. The evening concert at the school on May 25, featured the NS Celtic Ensemble, the students of the school, and guest performers, piper René Cusson and the Glengarry Dancers, a crowd-pleaser from start to finish.

The NS Celtic Ensemble has consistently sold out in the Vancouver area and has performed at numerous concerts, including on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Canada Day, and also at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland.

The workshops and concert was part of a series of initiatives taken by principal Raymond Lemoine, and staff and parents of École Océane to provide arts and cultural experiences for their community, and also the community at large.
