Calling All Dancers from the Sixties with the Moore School of Irish Dance

DANCERS with the Moore School of Irish Dance at St. Patrick’s Elementary School in 1963.

VANCOUVER – Violet Moore is searching for all members of her first Vancouver dance class who attended at St. Patrick's church basement located at that time on 12th Avenue at Main Street.

On September 25, St. Patrick’s Church is celebrating their 100th anniversary and Violet's dancers will perform at the event.

Violet said, “I’m excited about the possibility that my first team of dancers will join them in this celebration. This hooley could include our own celebration of the great times we enjoyed during those blessed years.

“Our reminiscence would definitely include one train trip to San Francisco to compete in a feis where one dancer snuck a free ride all the way by hiding in the luggage compartment. All her dance mates would cover her with stored luggage as soon as they heard the ticket Inspector shouting ‘tickets please’.”

Dancers included: Kathy Davies; Maureen Grant; Marjory, Virginia and Carol Pollock; Iris Peake; two Coll sisters; Peggy O'Toole; Jane Kowey and her sister. There are five names missing in the picture of our first new costume that I took on the stage of St. Patrick's Elementary School in 1963.

To participate, call Violet at (604) 522-0445 or e-mail: vimoore@hotmail.com.
