The Vancouver Gaelic Choir has crossed the border from Vancouver into Burnaby. On June 25, the choir will present a concert at 7 PM in the warm and friendly ambiance of the All Saints Anglican Church, 7405 Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby – just a couple of blocks south of the Royal Oak Skytrain station, near Rumble Street.
A variety of guest artists, including the All Saints Anglican Church Choir, and featured soloist, Patrick Lee, are also sure to delight and enchant the audience.
Tickets are only $15, with seniors paying a mere $10, and admission includes light refreshments after the concert.
The choir was formed in the 1980s, and sings many songs in Scottish Gaelic. Although most of the members are not native speakers of Scottish Gaelic, they do share a common Celtic heritage and love of the culture and music.
With Scottish Gaelic coaching from Maureen Lyon, a native speaker from the Isle of Lewis, the choir performs a repertoire which is unique on the Lower Mainland.
It sings a wide variety of musical arrangements, from traditional favorites to modern interpretations of ancient songs, arranged for the choir by Musical Director Dubravko Pajalic, and previous directors of the choir.
The Vancouver Gaelic Choir has competed in Scotland’s Mòd, winning trophies several times.
The choir practices every Tuesday night, from September to the end of June, at the All Saints Anglican Church on Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, and always welcomes new members. The ability to read music or speak Gaelic are not prerequisites.
