Mass in Irish on St. Patrick’s Day

VANCOUVER – The Rev. Anthony Boniface of Newton Forbes, Longford will celebrate mass in Irish at St. Pius X Church (1150 Mount Seymour Road in North Vancouver) on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 at 7 PM.

A collection will be taken to support St. Pius X Parish and to aid the Irish Benevolent Society of B.C. (formerly The Celtic Society of Canada). The Society administers a fund which provides short-term emergency financial assistance to those in need in our community.

A reception hosted by the parish community will take place in the hall following mass. All are welcome!

Granite stone from the Ancient Order of Hibernian's Celtic Cross (1909) at Grosse Île, Quebec will be on display.

Grosse Île was a quarantine station for Québec City from 1832 to 1937. It served as the key point of entry for immigrants to Canada until the First World War.

The history of the island is particularly marked by the events of the Great Irish Famine and the emigration of thousands of Irish men, women and children in 1847.

For further information about the mass, call John O’Flynn (604) 929-1466 or e-mail: johnoflynn@gmail.com.
