DYLAN THOMAS CIRCLE: Long-serving vice-president
steps down at AGM
By EIFION WILLIAMS
VANCOUVER – The annual general meeting of the Dylan Thomas Circle was held on November 7 in conjunction with the Welsh Society’s Cambrian Hall 80th anniversary celebrations.
Almost all the 2009 executive members were re-elected for next year with Lynn Meacham added as a member-at-large.
A major change saw Neville Thomas, the long-serving vice-president of the Circle step down, to be replaced by Diane Laloge.
Neville Thomas is one of the founding members of the Circle. He has played a prominent role in organizing and publicizing the Circle’s activities since 1997.
Following the AGM there was a reflection by the founding members on the early development years of the Dylan Thomas Circle. It was based on a delightful historical account, I Sang in my Chains, written by Ted Langley.
The afternoon program began with noted actor Russell Roberts expounding on A Taste of Dylan, captivating the audience with his enactments of some of Dylan’s works.
Guest Speaker Dr. Bo Earle of UBC closed the day with an address on the special philosophical and social importance poetry assumes in the modern world.
The next Circle event will be on December 11 at the Cambrian Hall, when Russell Roberts, Colleen Winton and Brian Tate will direct and perform in a sold-out evening of entertainment entitled Christmas in Wales.
