VANCOUVER – On December 5, the St. Vincent de Paul Society held their annual Christmas dinner for the volunteers at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Vancouver.

These are a special group of dedicated men and women who volunteer their time and energy throughout the year to help feed the homeless and less fortunate in our society.

Some volunteers work in either the Main Street or East Hastings Street thrift shops operated by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Others help to make sandwiches that are distributed twice a week on the downtown east side area of Vancouver.

Volunteers drive the van that takes the sandwiches and coffee to the needy, while others help to bag bread that is taken to the stores and given out to those who need help.

At this time of the year, with the cold weather, new toques, mitts and socks are needed and these items are distributed along with the coffee and sandwiches.

It takes a lot of volunteers to operate the St. Vincent de Paul Society, if you would like to participate your help is welcome whether for a day or a couple of hours a week. Call Sheila at (604) 873-1003, (604) 873-1065, or the help line at (604) 873-2297.
