Irish Ambassador’s Reception: Irish Hospitality at its Best

Dear Editor:
Thank you so much for your kind invitation to attend the event at the Arbutus Club on October 3.

I want to particularly thank your committee members who greeted us so warmly and who forgave me for leaving our tickets at home. This was Irish hospitality at its best and it made our visit most enjoyable.

It was inspiring to meet so many of our Irish fellow-Canadians, with some of whom I was already acquainted. Living where we live, we do not meet many Irish people and were delighted to find so many people who could understand our Cork accents.

Ambassador Kelly and Mrs. Kelly are a most enjoyable couple to meet and we enjoyed the opportunity to meet them. Councillor and Deputy Mayor Raymond Louie was intrigued by seeing so many Irish people in one venue.

He asked me what kind of clan is a De clan, in reference to His Excellency’s name. I assured him that the Irish have never been clannish.

I enclose a contribution to your group’s efforts from Carmel and me and again thank you and your colleagues for a most enjoyable evening.

With best regards,

Gerry Furney
Mayor
Town of Port McNeill, B.C.
