Get Your Party Piece Ready for the Next Irish Seniors' Luncheon
By MAURA DE FREITAS
VANCOUVER - There have been many enquiries about when the next Irish seniors' luncheon will be held in Vancouver, so I'm pleased to announce the next one will be on October 29.
This will be the third luncheon hosted by the Celtic Society of Canada Benevolent Fund thanks to a grant by the Irish Emigrant Programme of the Government of Ireland.
This event has grown in popularity and brings together Irish-born seniors to enjoy an afternoon of camaraderie filled with lots of laughs and some great entertainment.
Get out your dancing shoes and polish up on your best party piece because everyone is given a chance to share their favourite song or poem or story with the gathered clan. Popular musician Mark Downey will also make a return appearance with some old favourites.
There is a slight change in the format for this luncheon as there have been many requests to bring along a guest. Some seniors would like to bring along a caregiver, others would like to share the fun with a member of the family, or a friend who is not Irish or even a senior.
Since there is no charge for the Irish seniors, it has been agreed that guests will be welcomed with a slight charge of $15 each to cover costs.
A delicious luncheon buffet is provided by the Holiday Inn Express located at 2889 East Hastings Street in Vancouver. This month's event will be moved to a larger room to accommodate the growing popularity.
Doors open at 11 AM and there is plenty of free underground parking. The Holiday Inn Express is located near the PNE just off the trans-Canada Highway.
All guests and seniors must reserve in advance as a guarantee number must be provided to the Holiday Inn Express 48 hours prior to the event.
It would be greatly appreciated if you are unable to attend, you call and cancel as the Society is still responsible for your reservation with the hotel.
There will be no tickets sold to guests at the door. Payment can be made either by cheque to: The Celtic Society of Canada, or by VISA or Mastercard, by calling the Irish Community Co-ordinator Marie Morris.
There is no charge for Irish born seniors. To reserve for either yourself or your guest, call Marie Morris at (604) 929-1042, Catherine Brennan at (604) 266-4183, or e-mail: maura@telus.net.
