Welsh Society Events at the Cambrian Hall
By EIFION WILLIAMS
VANCOUVER - Vancouver Welsh Society members have enjoyed an increased number of activities over the past few months due to a very active Social Committee. These have included a trivia night, film nights and musical presentations. Further interesting and entertaining evenings are planned for the coming months.
The last film night was held on March 20 with the showing of One Moonlit Night (Un Nos Goleu Leuad) a Welsh language film with English sub-titles.
Based on a novel by Welsh writer Caradog Pritchard, the film is a dark, psychological study of mental illness as seen through the eyes of a young boy. The sadness of the film's theme was offset for the audience by the timeless humour of a Laurel and Hardy short film shown before the main event.
Coming up on April 19 is a social get-together and evening of musical entertainment featuring Vancouver guitarist James Thomas and his musical group. A light supper will be served during the evening.
On April 25, the Welsh Society will hold a Grand Spring Sale at the Cambrian Hall. The organizers are inviting people to provide items such as collectibles, china, cookware, books, clothing and jewellery. There will also be an opportunity to buy preserves and house and garden plants and enjoy homemade Welsh baking. The event will also feature raffles and door prizes. Refreshments will be available in the Lower Hall.
Anyone wishing to donate items for the Spring Sale or wishing further information can phone (604) 742-1378 or (604) 536-9556. Arrangements can be made to pick up items from donors.
