A Matchmaker in 1950s Rural Ireland Tells His Story in 'Letters of a Matchmaker'
VANCOUVER - MC Productions will present the Vancouver premier of Letters of a Matchmaker by J.B. Keane for two nights only on April 24 and 25. The play is adapted and directed by Frank Talbot and produced by Laurie MacKenzie.
Love in the Irish countryside… sounds romantic, doesn't it? Meet someone to share a wee nip, a simple dinner, and, maybe, a lifetime. Sounds easy enough.
Or so thought Patsy T. O'Connor, who, despite many ups and downs, happy unions and hopeless cases, faithfully pursued his vocation as an old-fashioned Matchmaker in 1950s rural Ireland.
Follow 10 lovelorn souls in pursuit of their perfect match - anyone will do! Ride along with Patsy T. as he frets, finagles and fishes out all the tricks of his trade - from peppered poitin to tempting toffees - aiming to spark the flint of love.
Letters of a Matchmaker will be hosted in the spectacular eighth floor PAL Theatre with cabaret-style seating and candlelight. The theatre is located on the eighth floor at 581 Cardero Street in Coal Harbour, Vancouver.
All profits go toward the Residents' Hobby Workshop. PAL Vancouver, a chapter of the Performing Arts Lodges of Canada, is a charitable Society providing quality affordable housing and support to seniors (and others) in the performing arts and allied professions.
