VANCOUVER - The Irish Women's Network of British Columbia (IWN) held their annual Nollaig na mBan (Women's Christmas) dinner on January 10 at the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside.
There had been some concern about attendance with all the snow and ice over the holidays but that concern was soon dispelled as the women started to arrive. The White Rock ladies arrived in style in a limousine.
After shopping and serving families and friends over the holidays and being housebound with the terrible winter weather, the ladies were ready for a right hooley and right after the delicious dinner was served, they were ready to party.
Two brave men among all those women - Brian Nicholl and Ray Fynes (two members of the new Irish showband in White Rock) - were the entertainers for the evening.
As soon as the first chord was struck on the guitar, the women took to the dance floor. Deirdre O'Ruairc IWN president said, 'this was the first time in all the years of Nollaig na mBan, that the women have danced until midnight."
