New 2008 IWN Calendar: Baring It All for a Good Cause

IRISH WOMEN'S NETWORK celebrate their 10th anniversary by publishing an adventurous 2008 calendar to benefit two very worthy causes.

By MAURA McCAY
VANCOUVER - It was standing room only at Mahony & Sons Public House when the veil was drawn back to reveal "A Glimpse of the Irish Women's Network" - their new 2008 calendar.

Although this is a view of the Irish Women's Network you probably have never seen before, it was all in good fun and organized to raise funds for two very worthy causes.

Vancouver chat queen Vicki Gabereau, whose family hails from Magherafelt, Northern Ireland, was on hand for the official unveiling.

Proceeds will go to Our Lady's Hospice in Lusaka, Zambia, a project recommended by former Irish President Mary Robinson. Fully functioning since 2003, the hospice provides quality clinical and spiritual care for terminal HIV/AIDS and cancer patients.

It will also assist the Celtic Society of Canada, a registered non-profit society based in Vancouver. The purpose of this organization is to provide short-term support to families and individuals in our local community who are facing financial crisis.

This year the women of IWN are celebrating its tenth anniversary, and the new calendar is the final result of extensive work and planning. For months, women throughout the Lower Mainland have gathered to doff their duds and pose for photographs behind strategically placed props

.

The final result is a tasteful calendar with 12 months of photos which convey the spirit of adventure that inspired this project.

The calendars are $19.99 and each one comes with a special envelope for postage, making them unique and ideal gifts for people all around the world for 2008.
