Christmas Celtic Harp Workshop at Place des Arts

TREBECCA BLAIR

COQUITLAM - Place des Arts is pleased to host the third annual Celtic Harp Workshop on October 27. Presented by accomplished Celtic harpist Rebecca Blair, this intensive workshop accommodates harp novices to advanced students.

Students will learn to play traditional Christmas Carols on the harp in time for the holiday season, using all kinds of improvisational tricks to make old favourites sound new and original. The early workshop date allows students enough practice time to be able to wow their friends and family during the holiday season.

Rebecca Blair is a faculty member at Place des Arts and a talented teacher and musician. Her studies began in the classical realm with the clarinet and soon expanded to encompass the Celtic harp.

Since graduating with a Masters degree in performance and musicology from the University of Victoria in 1996, she has focussed her interest on Celtic music and improvisation on the harp. She has attended many Celtic harp workshops all over North America and Ireland and has studied with such notables as Kim Robertson and Sharlene Wallace.

Rebecca is active in the Vancouver folk music scene, performing and touring with the group The Maenads and playing Irish sessions. She has played for a wide range of audiences, including the International Bar Association and the president of Ireland.

The workshop runs from 1 PM to 5 PM. The cost is $41.04. For more workshop information, call (604) 664-1636 or visit www.placedesarts.ca.
