B.C. Highland Dancers Qualify in Top 20 at Worlds

B.C. HIGHLAND DANCERS who qualified in the top 20 - Samatha Beach, Sarah Peitsch-Tyerman, Stephanie Wilson, Fiona Lee, Katie Trydal.

DUNOON, Scotland - At the Cowal Highland Games 20 dancers qualified for the World Highland Dancing Finals in each category. The following dancers from British Columbia qualified in the top 20 - Samantha Beach, Nanaimo and Sarah Peitsch-Tyerman, Burnaby, in the World Juveniles, Stephanie Wilson, Langley, and Fiona Lee, Coquitlam, in the World Juniors, and Katie Trydal, Vancouver, in Adults (Vincent Collins, Vancouver, also qualified in the Adult class).
Stephanie came third in the world and Fiona Lee is the World Champion for 2007 in the Juniors. Fiona is only the fourth dancer from B.C. to have won a world title at Cowal, a wonderful achievement.

B.C.BUSINESSWOMAN and dance teacher, Carolyn Phillips-Cusson, was one of a panel of 12 international judges selected to judge the World Highland Dancing Championships in Dunoon, Scotland. Cusson, the Director of CeltFest Vancouver Island and Principal of the Glengarry School of Celtic Dance, is pictured above among the coveted cups just prior to their being awarded to the winners in front of 40,000 spectators at the Cowal Highland Gathering which hosted the event. The three World Champions were Morgan Bamford from New Zealand, Fiona Lee from Vancouver, Canada, and David Wilton, from Scotland.
