Official launch of 2008 Calendar

VANCOUVER - When Irish eyes are smiling....10 years later in Vancouver, we think that's something to celebrate. So congratulations to the Vancouver-based Irish Women's Network on their upcoming tenth anniversary year!

IRISH WOMEN gathered for a good cause and to celebrate tenth anniversary of the IWN with something fun and adventurous.

They thought it was something to celebrate too....but not with the traditional tin or aluminium which (did you know this - I didn't!) is the appropriate tenth anniversary symbol. They wanted to do something a bit different. Something that was fun and adventurous, that would bring together Irish women - and those that are Irish at heart. They have great fun when they get together so why not celebrate in that style?
Why not, indeed? So they came up with the idea of a calendar. Not any old calendar, mind you, but one that captures that sense of fun and adventure, and shows the true spirit of Irish Women in Vancouver. How did they do that - well, you'll just have to buy one and see for yourself. The proceeds will go to two good causes.
They are raising money for two charities that are very important to them. One is the Celtic Society of Canada, a registered non-profit society based here in Vancouver, which helps people of Celtic heritage in time of need.
The other charity is one nominated by former Irish President, Mary Robinson whom they met here in Vancouver, two years ago. It's Our Lady's Hospice in Lusaka, Zambia that cares for people with HIV/AIDS and cancer.
The calendars are $19.99 and each one comes with a special envelope for postage, making them unique and ideal gifts for people all around the world for 2008.
The official launch of the calendar Glimpse of Ireland will be on September 20 in Mahony & Sons Public House on University Boulevard at UBC, Vancouver at 7:30 PM. Why not come to Mahony's on the evening of the launch, and celebrate a great 10 years and toast to at least 10 more?
