Ireland Monument Committee Seeks List of Top 100

VANCOUVER - The Ireland Monument Project committee is seeking submissions to help compile a list of prominent Irish-Canadians who have helped make Canada such a great country.

The objective is to list 100 names on one side of the monument planned for John Hendry Park at Trout Lake, which will commemorate the significant contributions made by Irish immigrants to Canada.

The criteria includes: The individual was born in Ireland; the individual was born in Canada of Irish parents; race, religion, politics, sex of the individual are not deciding factors; the individual has made a positive recognizable contribution to Canada.

These names will be placed on one side of the monument continuously except for a separation space and in random order. The Committee must have written permission from the family or an organization for inclusion of all names, unless the individual died prior to 1950.
