The B.C. Highland Games
Needs Volunteers - Can You Help?
VANCOUVER - The 76th annual B.C. Highland Games will be held again this year at Coquitlam Town Centre Stadium on June 30 and once again volunteers are vital to making the Games a success.
As the Games continue to grow in size every year, the need for volunteers becomes ever greater. Whether it's selling tickets at the gate, helping to set up tents, or showing VIPs around...there is a job for anyone who wants one. It's really a great way to meet new people and enjoy the friendly spirit of the day.
You can volunteer for anything from three hours on the day of the Games, to an evening or a week. If you have any time to spare, your contribution is welcome. In return you'll receive free admission at the gate, a souvenir t-shirt, and a day of great music and entertainment.
These particular Games can trace their origin back to the 1880s and, in fact, are older than the City of Vancouver itself. Over those years they've been convened in almost every municipality in Greater Vancouver. However, it was the Games held in conjunction with British Week at Expo 86 which really propelled the B.C. Highland Games into a new era.
Since moving to Coquitlam Town Centre Stadium over 15 years ago, organizers have found what they hope will be a permanent home. Here the event can continue to grow and improve from both a competitor and participant perspective.
This is a chance to be part of the best Highland Games in British Columbia and the biggest Scottish cultural event of the year. Come out and participate in a day of all things Scottish.
If you're interested, you're invited to attend the volunteer orientation night at 7:30 PM on May 14 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street in Vancouver.
Please RSVP with the volunteer coordinator by calling Ann at (604) 688-1418 (days), or (604) 671-8215 (cell), or e-mail: ann@danielmcintyre.com. Full details available on the Games official website at: www.bchighlandgames.com.
