Countdown to our 20th anniversary: Send us your photos, thoughts and memories

LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

Dear Readers:

It gives us great pleasure to present our combined 2010 July/August edition of The Celtic Connection. With this issue, we have started our countdown to our 20th anniversary next year.

Yes, I know it’s hard to believe The Celtic Connection has been part of the Celtic circle of western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest for almost 20 years. Can you remember picking up your first issue of The Celtic Connection?

Personally, I can’t believe it’s been that long but when I look around at some of our children who are now preparing for post secondary education and realize they weren’t even born when we launched our first issue in 1991, it brings home just how long we have been publishing.

We’d like to hear from you about your thoughts and memories. We have certainly shared a lot of wonderful adventures over these years.

The Celtic Connection has been the pulse and heartbeat of the community– sharing sorrows and grief, immortalizing births and deaths, along with the victories and experiences of our readers for almost two decades.

But The Celtic Connection has been much more than just a newspaper, it has been a resource and a vital connection bringing together diverse groups and personalities. It has helped build unity and find common denominators with our Celtic brothers and sisters.

In fact, The Celtic Connection has become an historical archive of the past 20 years in the Irish, Scottish and Welsh communities. From Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Seattle, you will find milestone events covered in our pages.

To celebrate our anniversary we will publish a souvenir issue next year, filled with some of the highlights of those years. We will recall the personalities and characters who helped to build our communities and make The Celtic Connection the success that it has become today.

So, put your thinking caps on and fire up your computer or get your pen and paper out and start writing down your thoughts relating to The Celtic Connection and our role in your life or your organization that you would like to share in our souvenir edition next year.

If there was a feature that we covered or a personality that we profiled that really stood out and made you stop in your tracks, we’d like to hear about it.

....And don’t forget, our annual fundraising golf tournament takes place this year on Sunday, September 26 at the Mylora Golf Course. Mark that date down! This event, like all our fundraisers is extremely important to our continued presence and we need your support.

In a challenging economic climate, our golf tournament helps us to raise funds that help us continue to evolve. We want to continue introducing the faces of our community to you in these pages for the next 20 years.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if you are not a golfer, come out to our apres-links barbeque and enjoy some live entertainment with the ever-popular Roolya Boolya – Mark and Mary. For more details, see page 3 of this issue.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy summer and we’re looking forward to meeting you all in September.

Best wishes,
Maura
