About Lack of Air Flights to Ireland
Hello Catholine:
Firstly let me congratulate you and your colleagues on the excellent newspaper you produce each month and being from the bogs of Ireland keeps me in touch with my fellow Celts.
I spoke with you years ago over the phone and was surprised to hear you say you came from Quebec. Your accent had me convinced you were from my part of the world and I still tell that story on occasions.
Anyway Catholine, I just wanted to ask if you ever hear from your readers concerning the lack of flights from both the American and Canadian West Coasts to Ireland. It is extremely difficult and expensive to visit 'the auld sod.'
Last year I went from Vancouver to San Francisco and caught an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin. This year that has stopped and fares have really rocketed. I paid approximately $900 last year and this year it is closer to $1,500, as well as going half way around the world in the process.
I know there is not much we can do, but what is badly needed is either a charter airline, like Zoom to fly directly, or some of the big operators to put a flight on, even once a week. Between here (Vancouver, B.C.) and Seattle there are literally thousands of people who fly and would consider flying if we had a more direct flight.
Am I the only one who complains about this, or do you hear others? Also, if you ever hear of a good route to Ireland please keep me and I'm guessing many of your readers informed.
Thanks for listening to my 'beef' and again it's not with you, but I believe I speak for thousands of frustrated and much poorer Celts on the West Coast.
Keep up the good work,
Des Lyttle
Vancouver, B.C.
