I am a police officer with the canine unit of the Everett Police Force in Washington State and several weeks ago my patrol dog Axle and I were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident while responding to a burglary in progress call.
A suspect fleeing the scene of the crime crashed into the driver's side of my patrol car as we arrived on the call, leaving me entrapped and seriously injured. I could never have imagined the type of outpouring from the community that I have experienced during the weeks that followed the incident.
I received many Mass cards and get well cards from the Irish community. I cannot say enough about how much the Irish community has meant to me during my life.
As many may know it is hard to grow up overseas missing all of your direct family. It is no secret as a result we become very close to many in the Irish community who stand in as "aunts and uncles" even though there is no blood relation.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for your prayers and Mass cards during this difficult time in my life. Especially the outpouring of support from many of you who called to check on my parents. It meant a lot to us to know we had so many people we love supporting us during this difficult time.
With much love,
Suzanne Eviston
