Three in a row! The fastest game in the world was won by the sleekest and fastest cats. The final score says it all.
The Kilkenny Cats were absolutely lethal and relentless in their crushing defeat of Waterford. Even before the finish of the first half, Kilkenny had one hand on the Liam McCarthy Cup and shortly into the start of the second half they had Liam McCarthy.
This is Kilkenny's third successive All-Ireland hurling title in Croke Park - the first time they've managed such a feat since 1911-1913. Kilkenny are known as the hurling county and the Kilkenny Cats have proved that time and time again.
From the moment the two teams ran on to the pitch in Croke Park, Dublin, in front of a capacity crowd of 82,186, excited and energized fans, the game was effectively over in 20 minutes. Shortly into the second half many disgusted and devastated Waterford fans started to head to the exits.
In Vancouver, Mahony and Sons Public House, was showing the All-Ireland Hurling game live via satellite from Dublin. Many Waterford and Kilkenny fans got out of their warm beds to watch the early 7:30 A.M. start.
There were many more Waterford than Kilkenny fans on hand in the pub to watch the game. It could have been that the Kilkenny fans were extremely certain of a third win and so enjoyed a confident sleep-in.
Some of the comments from the fans at Mahony and Sons Public House after watching the All Ireland Hurling Championship game are as follows:
Tony Blake: A Waterford fan who lived in Dungarvan, County Waterford, now resides in Vancouver said, "Sadly, it's about what I expected. Waterford were caught up in the occasion. Kilkenny really are the better team."
Kenny Lynch: A Kilkenny fan said, "We have just witnessed the best hurling team of all time! Untouchable!"
Tom O'Flynn: Limerick-born and resides in Vancouver. "Pretty hard to beat Kilkenny. Great trainer. The manager is outstanding."
