GUINNESS ANYONE? Jen Gallacher, owner of the Wolf and Hound pours some creamy pints

VANCOUVER - Since new proprietor Jennifer (Jen) Gallacher took over at the Wolf and Hound she has been busy making changes and putting her own stamp on the establishment.
I recently dropped in for an update on the changes. Jennifer had suggested that I stop by at opening time on a Saturday, because that is usually a quiet time and she would have an opportunity to speak with me.
But as luck would have it, in came the rain and everyone was looking for a cosy place to get some warm comfort food and enjoy a beverage. In no time flat the place was hopping.
Fortunately, Jennifer used to be a server at the popular West Broadway establishment before she became the owner. Having several tables of thirsty and hungry customers all at once didn't seem to faze her. She took it all in stride as she accepted orders for food and beverage.
The first thing I noticed at the Wolf and Hound is how much brighter it is now when step inside the door. This is because the drapes on the front window have been removed. It also makes the room look much larger. One other thing you notice is all the lovely brass fittings. They were always there, but now with more light they seem to be highlighted.
Other changes include more seating in the little snug area in the back where the high definition television is located. This will appeal to sports enthusiasts to watch the rugby, soccer, and hockey games. The Wolf and Hound now brings in the overseas games through Setanta, and shows all the pay-per-view hockey games.

Speaking about menu changes, Jennifer said, "we're in the process of changing our menu but will keep our staple items. We will do a fresh sheet every week or two with 15 or more items along with weekly specials. I have started baking all the desserts, such as almond ice cream, chocolate brownies, pies etc.
"As well as experience as a server, I am also a trained chef. I wouldn't have taken over this business without that experience. There are two parts to running this business and you really need to know both of them."
Some of the upcoming events planned at the Wolf and Hound include a Hallowe'en party on October 31 with music and prizes. They are also booking now for Christmas and New Year parties. They have three different set menus to choose from which are listed on their website at: www.thewolfandhound.com.
The Wolf and Hound has live Celtic music four nights a week. Along with their regular menu they also serve a full Irish breakfast on Sundays, including champagne and orange juice. Sounds great now with the dark dreary days of fall upon us.
The Wolf and Hound has always been a great spot for private parties, but now it's even better with the expanded snug area.
The Wolf and Hound is located at 3617 West Broadway, Vancouver (Between Dunbar and Alma). For more information, call (604) 738-8909, or visit: www.thewolfandhound.com.
