VANCOUVER - On a recent visit to Surrey, I stopped in to the Dublin Crossing Irish Pub. The establishment has only been opened since January, but since day one it has been an instant hit with the neighbourhood and surrounding area. The interior of the pub is beautiful with its high cathedral ceilings, rich wood panelling, several intimate little snug areas, and rich Celtic decor.
The Dublin Crossing has also quickly established itself as the Fraser Valley's new home of live Celtic music, by bringing in some of the best known Celtic groups around these parts. Groups such as Tiller's Folly; The Streels; Murphy's Laugh; The Mad Celts; Fear of Drinking and Three Row Barley, are just a few that have played there.
Starting July 9, a live Celtic music session will be held every Monday night, hosted by Allan Walsh of theThree Row Barley group. Anyone interested is encouraged to bring along their guitar, pipes, fiddle or any other musical instrument. Anyone interested in a good kitchen Ceili, or just for the pure joy of listening is also welcome.
Their award winning chef Laura Sharpe won Canada's Next Best Chef 2006 and recently represented Canada in Chicago for Team Canada World Culinary Championship. Laura is just 24-years-old.
There are daily food specials along with the main menu items. There is also a late night appetizer menu served from 10 PM to midnight.
The Dublin Crossing also has two beautiful patios filled with trees and planted flowers. One patio faces the east and is non-smoking, the other faces the west and is for smokers.
While visiting at the pub I had an opportunity to meet owner James (Jim) MacIntyre, who is originally from the Maritimes and proud of his Irish and Scottish background. As a native Maritimer, it's not surprising that Jim has plans for a Lobster Festival at the Dublin Crossing. He intends to fly the lobster in direct from the Moncton Fish Market.
So, there's lots happening at the Dublin Crossing. It is located at the corner of 188 Avenue and Fraser Highway in Surrey. For more information, call (604) 575-5470, or visit their website at: www.dublincrossing.com.
