A Delicious Lunch at Ceili's High Above the Crowds

VANCOUVER - As usual after The Celtic Connection has been distributed each month, Colleen and I will stop in for lunch at one of the restaurants or pubs on our distribution route. After the May issue, we stopped in to Ceili's Irish Pub which is located on Smithe and Granville in downtown Vancouver.

It was a beautiful sunny day, so we enjoyed lunch and the view from their roof-top patio. Not only is it the largest roof-top patio in Vancouver, but with their unique retractable roof it can be opened year round.

When the weather is cold or inclement, they can close the roof and they have heaters and a cosy fireplace with a well-stocked bar area. This is known as the "Fighting Irish Bar." The day we were in, the roof was open so we enjoyed blue sky and sunshine.

Since the roof-top patio is on the third floor with glass enclosures, you are high above the madding crowd and traffic below so you can carry on a conversation without having to shout. On some sidewalk patios it's hard to be heard above the din of traffic.

Ceili's has a daily lunch special or you can order any of their famous signature dishes from the menu. I had the seafood pasta which was absolutely delicious. For dessert, I enjoyed the deep fried ice cream. This is vanilla ice-cream lightly battered and fried with brown sugar and cinnamon, drizzled with caramel, and then topped with hot fudge and Bailey's infused whip cream....just awesome!

The second floor is where the nightly entertainment takes place. Meals are served on this level as well. The Banshee Room can be reserved for private parties, meetings or any of your special events.
