A Fabulous Music Line Up at This Year's BC Highland Games

VANCOUVER - In addition to piping, drumming, caber tossing, Highland dancing, and a host of other activities, the 2007 BC Highland Games is proud to present a brilliant music line-up to entertain guests at their mainstage on June 30.

THE HISTORY of the annual B.C. Highland Games is entwined with the history of Vancouver. Organized Highland Games have been practised by Scots-Canadians in the Lower Mainland since 1893. Now there is growing interest in Scottish piping and dancing among people who are not of Scottish descent.

The Alexander Brothers, direct from Scotland, will make their first appearance at the Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam (formerly known at the Coquitlam Town Centre Stadium) this year. Organizers thought it was high time these two Scottish legends shared their warmth, humour and enthusiasm for Scottish culture and heritage with visitors to the Games.

Tom and Jack Alexander will perform at 1:45 PM and again at 3:30 PM. Don't miss the massed bands joined by The Alexander Brothers at the closing ceremonies for the Games at approximately 5:45 PM.

Two of Vancouver's favourite Celtic musicians, John Mann and Geoff Kelly - founding members of Spirit of the West - will also be making an appearance.

Together John and Geoff have made a dozen albums and performed in the UK, Germany, the U.S. and all over Canada. Everyone is invited to give them a warm welcome when they perform at 1 PM and again at 2:40 PM.

Another great performer who will appear on stage at the Games is Peter McCutcheon, one of Canada's best lyric tenors who performed at Tartan Day in Toronto.

Comfortable singing Scottish, opera, classical and popular music, McCutcheon's singing style has garnered comparisons to Josh Groban and John McDermott. His voice, however, is uniquely his own, and he has been recognized for his subtle and feeling approach to singing the tender emotional content of an earlier era. He will sing the national anthems and Flower of Scotland at the opening ceremonies at 12 noon.

Also, don't miss hearing the world's best pipe band side drummer on stage, along with Stephen McWhirter, direct from Ireland, who is new on board with the SFU Pipe Band.
