Ceili's Pub and Restaurants: Upcoming Events and Plans

By CATHOLINE BUTLER

THE CREW at Calgary Ceili's are (back, far left) Manager Mike Ehrman surrounded by staff Andrea, Kim, Kyla, Sarah, Riesha, Janine and Chef Brian.

On my recent visit to Edmonton and Calgary, I dropped in to visit Ceili's Pub and Restaurant in both cities.

Bill McBain is the managing partner at the Edmonton Ceili's and he was telling me about some of the features that will be happening there in the next few weeks.

"With the warmer weather our patio will be opening and we're really excited because we have bought all new patio furniture....so that will really be nice.

"We have Bike Night every Wednesday where we cater to a lot of charities with entertainment and barbeques. Every Thursday is our East Coast Kitchen Party Night with a band called Screech. It's sponsored by Alexander Keith's and we have a lot of prizes and giveaways.

"We also have our eighth annual Billy McBain Lobster Fest, which is a charity event, coming up in July. We fly in fresh lobsters from the Maritimes and sell tickets for 150 people. It's sold out every year.

"We're also very involved with community events such as the big Indy event, the annual folk festival and Heritage Days. We are also proud sponsors the Edmonton Wolfe Tones Gaelic Football team."

Bill showed me what used to be the Atrium room which is now undergoing renovations and will be renamed the Banshee room. It's a private room off the main pub which is really ideal for meetings and all types of private parties such as anniversaries and birthdays.

When I arrived in Calgary, I stopped in to Ceili's in Calgary located on 803 Eighth Avenue South West. This is the only location in Calgary now as their flagship facility is currently being demolished to make way for yet another high rise.

One of the managers, Mike Ehrman, gave me a tour of the premises, pointing out some of the upcoming changes which will be quite extensive. More room is needed since they are trying to absorb many of the patrons from the original Ceili's.

The Banshee room in Calgary is quite large and can accommodate a large private party and also be used for meetings. Plans are underway to open another Ceili's near the airport. When construction is complete on the highrise, Ceili's will once again open in the original spot.

In Vancouver, Ceili's offers a unique roof-top patio with a retractable roof which offers an excellent view of downtown. It is the largest roof-top patio in Vancouver and gives a great summertime experience to enjoy delicious gourmet lunches or just soak up warm summer evenings under the stars.
