North American Gaeltacht For Irish Language Enthusiasts

KINGSTON - The North American Irish language community is now in possession of a 60-acre parcel of land along the Salmon River, approximately 50 minutes west of Kingston, Ontario.

The official opening will take place on June 16 and organizers would like to make this a major gathering of Irish language speakers from all over North America.

The annual convention of the North American Association of Celtic Language Teachers will be held in Kingston from June 13-16.

P.J. Mac Gabhann from Ollscoil na hÉireann, Má Nuad will be present to describe the new curriculum and testing for the European Languages Certificate in Irish at levels A1 and A2.

Trial testing sessions will take place to give teachers an idea of the milestones that they should prepare their students for.

The North American Gaeltacht Summer Week will be held from July 30 to August 4 at the North American Gaeltacht site at Tamworth/Erinsville in Ontario. Four levels are offered: children; adult beginner; adult intermediate; and adult advanced/intensive.

There is camping on site and hotels and bed and breakfasts available within a 20 minute drive. Classes will be held at Erinsville primary school. For more details and contact information, visit: www.srayner.ca/comhaltas.
